American College sport in Pinehurst? Swindon Shock net a win over Chichester.

It’s the theme of many a Hollywood blockbuster, and Swindon sports a team too. Basketball is played at the Swindon Academy on a Saturday night, and this week we won!

©calyx_Pictures_Sportswindon_So you thought that the all-American sport of Basketball was a non-contact sport; think again.

The Swindon Shock Basketball team played out a winning 4 sessions at the Swindon Academy against a battling Chichester Thunder on Saturday night. It’s very competitive, fast and furious. The refs are kept busy.

After late road game collapses against Bristol and Gloucester, Swindon Shock National Team are finding out the meaning of home court advantage. Swindon Shock stunned a very good Oxford Side 73-70 a few weeks ago and followed it up by dispatching one of the top sides Chichester Thunder 86-77.

Nic Hypolite led the team effort with 29 points and some key shooting that helped stretch the lead late in the second half. The team also welcomed back Mantas Kmita and his 15 points after being away for the last 4 weeks.

Matt Ford also played one of his best games of the season chipping in 13 points and some monster slam dunks.

Chiches©calyx_Pictures_Sportswindon_ter started the game at a blistering pace jumping out to a 22-14 lead after the first quarter. Swindon were able to gather themselves in the second quarter and great team play and ball movement allowed them to take a 42-36 halftime lead.

Unlike the Gloucester game, Swindon came back to start the third quarter with all its starters healthy and extended their lead, 68-54. Before closing out the game out 86-77.

After a day of talking to BBC Wiltshire’s Marie Lennon, Swindon Shock backed up its talk in front of a solid crowd and got the win.

Honorable mention goes to the grunt work and defensive play of Dan Chambers and David Colclough who combined to shut down Chichester star player J. McLaren and limit him to just 10 points after scoring the first 6 points of the game.©calyx_Pictures_Sportswindon_
