Swindon Wildcats earned themselves an important weekend result as they delivered a home victory over the Slough Jets.

In a game that saw two rival sides take to the ice, it was little surprise that a physical affair dominated the opening period. It would take 18 minutes for the deadlock to be broken on the scoreboard and it would be the home side who would draw first blood despite being shorthanded. Courtesy of a back pass by the Swedish Jonas Hoog, Aaron Nell would find his way to net and after an initial close range effort, a second attempt would see the forward beat Andrej Vasiljevic.©calyx_Pictures_Swindon_Wildcats_9534

A one goal played out through the second but when a wrap around left ‘Cats netminder Stevie Lyle out of position, the away sides’ Daniel Rose then found his first with a tap in.

A late Jets goal took the tied game into the third and within 4 minutes the score would change yet again. This time courtesy of the home team as a powerplay chance would give Aaron Nell a chance from blue line, before line mate Sam Bullas would be positioned to collect the re©calyx_Pictures_Swindon_Wildcats_9367bound for a defining goal.©calyx_Pictures_Swindon_Wildcats_9571

Minutes later and the lead was then doubled as yet another powerplay opportunity gave Jan Kostal the room to shoot from the blue line and beat Vasiljevic low past the pad.©calyx_Pictures_Swindon_Wildcats_9455

Although holding the advantage, Swindon were to see the away team draw within one as a 55th minute goal by Slough’s Ryan Webb bought the sides to within one after one timed effort.

This made for a final tense 2 minutes however with Wildcats netminder Stevie Lyle proving why Great Britain had called him for so long, Swindon were to deny Slough and earn what was a vital 2 point victory.

This Saturday  Bracknell Bees are at the Ice Arena Link Centre and Ryan Aldridge has a message for fans.
