Swindon Town Ladies win through to final.

Swindon Town Ladies made it into the League Cup final for the second year in a row after a 4-2 victory over Southampton Saints at the County Ground.

The goals from Catherine Reid, Ellie Maynard and Chyna Collings (2) saw Town run out convincing winners as the hosts were quickest out of the blocks with a Catherine Reid strike from range into the roof of the net after just two minutes.©calyx_Pictures_swindon Town Ladies_v_Southampton_7-4-13_7397

Two wasted opportunities from Town forward Abby Picton failed to add to the score as Southampton goalkeeper Hannah Haughton kept the saints in the game.

Goal scorer Reid struck the crossbar twice within a couple of minutes. First, after collecting the ball out wide, she saw her curling effort brushed the woodwork, and then her cross-cum-shot catching goalie Haughton off-guard.

The second goal came in the 27th minute with a Picton’s thunderous strike proving too hot for Haughton to handle.

At the other end a Jennie Duffy’s free-kick caused panic amongst the Swindon defence alowing  Catherine Browning to drive straight at Town ‘keeper Robyn Levett.©calyx_Pictures_swindon Town Ladies_v_Southampton_7-4-13_7436

Southampton soon pulled a goal back. Duffy tried her luck from distance and lobbed Levett to cut the Town lead to one.

Swindon’s two goal lead was restored just minutes later, as a Reid corner eventually went in off Collings’ boot.

In a quiet second half the hosts defended their 3-1 lead and gave Southampton little chance break down the Swindon defence.

Towns fourth goal arrived just past the hour mark. A one-two between Collins and Picton saw her shot beat Haughton from eighteen yards to make it 4-1.

Saints pulled one back with a curling free kick from 30 yards which evaded the ©calyx_Pictures_swindon Town Ladies_v_Southampton_7-4-13_7590wall and went in over the head of Levett.

Levett kept the Town with a two goal lead, stopping a one-on-one attack by Saints skipper Krystal Whyte, by grabbing the ball at the striker’s feet.

In stoppage time, with Saints Keeley Fitzgerald pickede up Whyte’s a cutback only to be blocked by Town captain Kim Reeves’ last-ditch challenge.

Town now face either Keynsham Town or Newquay for the League Cup trophy
